The way the specially wired pickups work starts with the rear blade switch position (the first or top volume knob works for all pickups): The full bridge humbucker, this is the most powerful setting for thick, crunchy rhythms and screaming lead work (no tone control for this position), the second position taps the inside coil of the humbucker and combines it with the middle Tex Mex™ single-coil pickup for a clean, twangy almost hollow-like sound, the rear or lead tone control works in this position.

Now on to the third position; The middle Tex Mex™ single-coil pickup by itself with the rear or lead tone control, this has a very midsy type of sound not thin and trebly but with enough bite for leads.

The fourth position combines the middle and neck single-coil pickups the middle or rhythm tone knob works on the neck pickup and the rear or lead tone control works for the middle pickup, this sound is good for Jazz or Blues and R&B chording – Think clean delicate Hendrixy type of rhythms with a soft-edged tone.

Fifth position; Neck pickup only with middle or rhythm tone knob, this has a throaty almost muted tone great for legato runs or crying blues bends, when tone is very clean this is a great sound for Jazz runs.
